            Nutrition & Herbal Medicine

Although acupuncture is probably the best-known form of Traditional East Asian Medicine here in the West, Nutrition and Herbal Medicine have an equally vital place in the medicine.
Imagine the body as a house. You can have the best builders in the world, but without the materials to build the house (nails, plywood, etc.) it will be impossible to build or repair a house.
Nutrition and Herbal Medicine provide the materials the body needs to stay in balance or regain balance after illness or injury.

What Kind of Herbs Should I Take?

There are basically three major forms that herbs come in: Bulk, Granules, & Patents.

            BULK

Bulk herbs are the dried herbs themselves.  The are generally soaked and then prepared as a tea.

Advantages of Bulk: Usually the cheapest price and strongest effects.  Can be modified to your specific needs.  Good for people who cannot tolerate the binders used in granules or patents due to food sensitivities.
Disadvantages of Bulk: Preparation can be time-consuming.

            GRANULES

Granules are precooked herbs in granular form.  Just dissolve the granules in hot water and presto -- instant herbal formula.

Advantages of Granules: Very convenient and easy to do, still can be tailored to your individual needs.
Disadvantages of Granules: May not be appropriate if an individual has sensitivities to the binders used in that particular product.

            PATENTS

            Premade formulas in pill form.

Advantages of patents: Convenient.  Milder effects may be better for more sensitive individuals.  Do not have to taste the herbs.  Good for long-term herb use.
Disadvantages of patents: Effects can be more muted.  Cannot be modified for individual needs.
