A message of hope
Dear AWOB community,
I’ve had many people come into my office over the last week, deeply mourning the tragedy that has occurred in Paris and many other cities in the world.
At times like these, it is easy to feel despondent…even hopeless. And yet, even in the midst of immense suffering, we see the beauty, the generosity, and the courage within people:
When I hear stories like this, it reminds me that life is not just what happens to us, it is how we respond to it. No doubt these people have been shaken by anger, shock, and sadness but instead of becoming a victim and feeding those forces, they breathed in those feelings, metabolized them and exhaled what they truly value in the world.
In transforming their own grief and fear, they cease to become victims and instead become heroes in our eyes, because the journey of transforming pain into something of beauty is truly a heroic act. It touches our hearts and asks us, “What can you transform in your life?”
And herein lies the solution to helplessness. It is true that the problems of the world are immense. Most of us are not going to transform the world overnight, but what we do have the power to do is to transform ourselves and put what we value into the world.
It doesn’t matter what the act is. Really, it’s the small day-to-day choices that create our character and the legacy of our lives – like choosing a moment to be honest when it is really hard, saying a kind word to someone who is suffering, healing an old wound, or sharing an embrace with someone you love and being grateful for life’s many blessings.
This Thanksgiving I would to invite you to join me in sharing gratitude as a powerful force of healing in the world.
“Wait a minute,” you might ask. “Why is gratitude a force of healing?”
Gratitude is a shift in consciousness away from negativity and scarcity, into positivity and abundance. Gratitude implies possibility and opens a place for new energy to enter our lives. It says,” I am willing to open my heart to the possible.”
Never doubt this:
You make a difference.
The world is a better place because of you being in it, and
No one can replace the gift that you alone have to give to the world.
In the end, what the world needs most is ordinary people making the choice to live from their hearts and their conscience – to bring their dreams and gifts into the light so that they can be shared.
P.S. If any of this resonates with you, I have something special coming out soon that I am very excited to share with you. Keep an eye out for it in the next few weeks! Also please share something your are grateful for by commenting below!
