I just let go of something BIG this January. As many of you know, I spend several years getting a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and have invested several hundred hours post-graduation towards my LPC license (Licensed Professional Counselor license). I really loved counseling and the grace of being invited into people’s inner worlds (and I was told by many – even other professionals that I was very good at it). So why let it go?
Well several years ago, I certainly wasn’t ready to. Here I was with a child, recently married, going to school full time for Oriental Medicine (a second Master’s Degree), working, and still trying to get my LPC hours along with paying for supervision. Crazy right? But I was powering my way through with fists clenched in determination – I am not a quitter, I always complete things, I am so close…
The truth is, sometimes things that make sense from a mental perspective just are not resonant with our inner selves or what we need in the moment. For me, the signal came when things just really weren’t working (a key that it is really time to step back and re-examine things).
Looking deeper, I knew deep down that trying to get my LPC was taking time away from parts of my life that really needed attention. And, as much as I passionately loved what I had learned in counseling…I did not love the world of counseling – at least not as it was currently practiced or how I wanted to practice it. Finally, I had to open myself to the possibility of letting go.
It was only after I opened myself up to that possibility that I found out that I had the option of putting off the licensing process for a few years. Deep breath…I had been given a welcome respite to figure it all out. This January though, that respite expired – and so did my license. I let it all go.
And I am okay with that.
Why you ask?
Because in opening up my perspective, sitting with it, and struggling with it – I was able to really see what was TRUE. And that truth is, that I never went to study counseling psychology because I wanted to be a counselor. I wanted to be a teacher and a writer, and I wanted to become a mind-body medicine practitioner.
And the beauty is that even if I am already all those things, I am embracing that truth on a whole new level this month, by bringing back that knowledge in a whole new way.
But before I go into that, what BIG thing have you had to let go to find out what was TRUE? Leave your comments below and then check out my big announcement below!
INTRODUCING THE WELLNESS PARTNER PROGRAM (WPP) coming soon!
Imagine Natural Medicine combined with the care & support of a Wellness Coach.
Yup. I didn’t let go of things completely! My license as an acupuncturist has lifestyle and wellness counseling as part of the scope of practice and in that vein I want to start working with people with chronic health and overwhelm issues that don’t respond well to, or are tired of medication and other conventional approaches and truly want to make a huge life change – by incorporating a coaching aspect to my practice.
I am super excited about this direction as I think it can make a tremendous difference in people’s lives. Why? Because information is often not enough, we also need support to successfully accomplish our goals.
In that vein, this month I am offering a FREE 20 min laser coaching call to anyone who wants to talk about, “What is the biggest obstacle for making the changes you want in your health?”
They are completely FREE and there are no sales involved. This is just my opportunity to give back, help give people a jump start towards their health goals, and at the same time it allows me to get really well informed about where the greatest need is so that I can create the BEST program possible.
Want to make a heath change for your New Year’s Resolution or know someone else who does?
Sign up for a FREE Lazer coaching session right after a normally scheduled appointment or at a completely independent time. Just click here and sign up like you would for a normal session –choose Free Consultation (Skype or In-Person) and you are set.
And please help support a couple of people you know who would dearly love a little time and attention to make their lives better by sharing this FREE 20 minute coaching session themselves.
