Massage Therapy for Injuries & Mental-Emotional Well-being
Western orthopedic testing and massage techniques are combined with Eastern Zen Shiatsu (acupressure) and Tui Na (Chinese medical massage). This allows specific treatment of your complaint while putting the body into a more balanced state in which healing can occur more readily.
Chinese Foot Reflexology may also be included, along with oriental modalities such as gua sha (similar to Graston Technique) and cupping.
It is not unusual to have trauma associated with an injury (such as a Motor Vehicle Accident) or medical treatment (such as Cancer). Although I do not combine counseling with massage, having a counseling background allows me to identify and adapt to special needs and circumstances in a way that others might find more challenging.
There is also a good deal of research on massage and it's positive affects on reducing anxiety and depression. Please find more information on the Patient Resources page.
I've never had a massage before. What can I expect?
First we will go over your health history and goals for the session. Generally you are covered with a sheet at all times except for the area being worked on -- except in the case of Shiatsu and some Tuina which can be done fully clothed. Pregnant women or individuals who cannot lay on their face or back can generally be worked in a side-lying position. Please feel free to contact me about any expectations or concerns you may have.
